How to Add Pictures to Your Closet Items Using Screenshots
This article explains how to find and add photos to your digital closet items using screenshots from store websites, Google searches, or Poshmark listings — no personal photos required.
Finding Images for Your Closet Items
For Recently Purchased Items
Keep the store tab open where you bought the item so you can copy the product image, brand name, and link directly from there.

For Items You’ve Had for a While
Do a Google search using the brand name and a description of the piece (for example, “J.Crew striped short-sleeve tee”). You’ll often find the item still listed on the brand’s website, or sold as a secondhand listing on Poshmark. Either a professional product photo or a Poshmark photo of the same item works fine.

Taking Your Own Photo
Of course, if you can’t find a photo online, you can lay the piece flat near a window with natural sunlight and take a photo of it. Take the photo directly above the item rather than from an angle. Make sure the background is distinct from the color of the item you’re photographing so that the background remover can easily identify edges.
Setting Up Your Computer for Easy Cataloging
We recommend doing this on a computer so you can work with two windows open side by side.
On one side, open the page where you’re finding your item images and store info. On the other side, open the app to your Closet page.
Taking Screenshots of Your Items
Open your computer’s built-in screenshotting tool.
Tip: If you’re not sure how to find it, search “screenshotting tool for Windows” or “screenshotting tool for Mac.”
Go through each item you want to add and take a screenshot of it.
When taking your screenshot:
- Try to get as close to the edges of the piece as possible
- If there’s a photo of the piece without a model, you can use that
- You can also screenshot the item on a model — just isolate the piece itself as much as you can
- It doesn’t need to be exact — the platform will remove the background and crop it down for you

Adding Items to Your Closet
On the Closet page, tap Add and select that you’re adding to your closet.
Search for a descriptor of the item — for example, “striped tee” or “short-sleeved striped tee.”
Select the item type, then tap Add More to continue adding additional items before uploading photos.

A note on categories: You can duplicate an item after adding it to assign it to a second category, so it shows up in outfits for multiple piece types.
Uploading Your Screenshot Image
Once you’ve selected an item, you’ll see an example image for that piece.
If the example image is very similar to yours, you can checkmark to “keep it”.
Otherwise, select your own screenshot to upload.

After it’s uploaded, tap Remove Background.
This will remove the background and crop the image automatically.

If the background removal cuts too much off:
- Tap Revert to Original or Revert to Example Image to undo
- Alternatively, go to remove.bg (a free website) to manually remove the background, then upload the cleaned image
Filling In Item Info
In the Nickname field, enter a name that will help you remember and search for this item when building outfits.
Select which Closet you want the item added to and confirm it’s set correctly.
Copy over the brand name and store link from the tab where you found the item, or type the brand in manually if you no longer have the link.

This information is worth adding because when you create a customized outfit and share it with all members, other members can tap on individual items in your outfit breakdown to shop for them.
That means the more complete your brand and link info is, the more useful your shared outfits become to the community.
