The best shoes for travel don’t have to be boring, basic, or uncomfortable. No matter where your adventures are taking you, the happier you keep your feet, the happier your body feels.
Maybe you want a tennis shoe to go camping or hiking in.
Maybe you want a slip-on to walk the streets of Europe in (if this is you, I’m completely jealous).
Maybe you need a sandal to take you from hitting the park with the kids to coffee with a girlfriend.
Or maybe you’re like me and chase kids around a farm and need something that washes easily and doesn’t fall off when trying to push the clutch in on the tractor (No? Just me? Ok, fair enough).
Well, whatever the cause is, the need is the same.
We need comfortable, cute, everyday shoes to take us through all our summer adventures, whether running, chasing or driving.
So here are our favorite travel and walking shoes, with recommendations included from our Frump Fighters’ community!
Bonus: All styles are available on Amazon!
Comfortable, Stylish, & Cute All-Day-Wear Shoes
One key to making both slip-ons and sneakers work is no-show socks.
Socks keep your feet from sweating inside your shoes too much and often add to the comfort factor.
The best no-show socks don’t come up to your ankle on the top of your foot, but just cover your toes, and have silicone at the heel to keep them from slipping.
If the silicone starts to bother your heel, you can flip the sock inside out and place the silicone at your toes or just get some without silicone.
Amazon has tons of great options, but even places like Costco tend to carry them during the warmer months.
The Best Shoes for Travel: Sneakers
Sneakers are usually your typical lace-up tennis shoe. These work great for sportier outfits or times when you are doing more intense outdoor activities like hiking or an entire day of walking.
Cross Trainers are specifically made for many different athletic activities. These Nike Cross Trainers have dual-density foam insoles and have a mesh outer for great breathability!
There are great color options for this style. Lots of neutrals to choose from, including lots with a small pop of color for added fun element.
These New Balance sneakers are very lightweight and have a memory foam inserts to keep each step extra plush and comfortable.
They have great neutral shoe options, including black combos, greys, whites, and even a few fun options with printed details on the back.
These are a classic style shoe – you can’t go wrong!
They are leather so they will wear well and long and they have a Cloudfoam midsole for comfort and cushioning.
These Nikes are almost fully mesh so that have great breathability and air flow.
This grey blends well with a lot of different colors and is very versatile, although they do have other neutral options as well.
The Best Shoes for Travel: Slip-On Shoes
Slip-on shoes are the perfect “in between” shoe! Close toed, keep your feet a little warmer and safer (and cleaner!), but aren’t super sporty and go with a wide variety of outfits.
I love a good pair of slip-ons because they go with anything from ankle pants to shorts to casual dresses.
These are one of the more expensive pairs of shoes on our list, but they are full leather and have really great reviews. These are the ultimate in casual footwear that are comfy, stylish, and yet comfortable!
If you have any problems with your feet or regular soreness you can’t beat Vionic shoes – they come highly recommended!
These have a trendier look with the slightly taller platform sole and the quilting on the top.
I love the metallic sheen to this color! They have ECCO’s fluidform insoles and are very comfy!
Memory foam insoles, extra padding, classic lines, what more could you ask for?
How about more than 30 color and design options! I’m seriously swooning over a few of the prints!
I love the knit look of these slip-ons, they add some fun texture. The have a foam footbed for comfort, so you can’t go wrong!
They have some sweet pastel color options along with the usual neutral options.
The Best Shoes for Travel: Sandals
Flip flops are definitely what I grab automatically on warm, sunny days. But many of us make the mistake of having cheap flip flops that provide no support and not much comfort!
So let me help you (and myself) with this list of solid options for comfy, stylish sandals.
I have heard so many fantastic reviews of these Yoga flip flops from Sanuk. I have a friend who wore these at Disneyland day after day and didn’t have sore feet! Say what?!
They are also machine washable! Sound like a mama’s dream sandal!
These may look simple, but they are packed with foot-friendly goodness.
Designed by a podiatrist, these Vionic’s have an orthotic sole specifically made to help support your heel (plantar fasciitis) and realign your spine to it’s natural position.
These are one of the most highly recommended brands in our Frump Fighter’s community!
My favorite slip-ons are Crocs brand (and unfortunately not made anymore😭) and I love them so much I am definitely tempted to try these sandals!
Made out of Croslite they are super light weight with a molded footbed. I love the sleek look!
These FitFlops have a 3 layered footbed made to absorb impact and diffuse foot pressure.
I love the sporty look of these!
I know, I know, your mind just stopped and you’re trying to wrap your head around why Birkenstocks made it on the “not frumpy” shoe list. Aren’t we well removed from the 90s?!
Whatever your opinion of Birkenstocks, they are probably one of the comfiest sandals out there.
The shape of the footbed allows weight to be evenly distributed across your foot (hello, happy back and hips!) and they completely mold to your feet as you wear them in.
They are made in Germany with high quality leather and cork and the buckle means you can adjust the strap to your liking. Convinced yet? 😉
How to Decide on the Best Shoes for Your Needs
How will you ever choose with so many comfortable options?
Remember that it’s the little things that often make your outfit pop. The right belt, the right necklace, the right shoes… each of these can make that bit of difference and change how you feel about your clothing choices that day.
So think about what you already have in your closet and what category you wear the most – whether it be the need for something more sporty or a trendier looking sandal.
Adding a quality slip-on or sandal to your closet will help you feel better, not just because they are stylish, but also because they are good for your feet!
