Today we are talking all about leggings. Most importantly, how moms can style leggings without looking frumpy!
If you are new to the blog, our purpose here is to give you tips, advice, and style ideas to keep your mom outfits looking cute, classy and in-style, while keeping our focus on mom-friendly. It’s hard enough to keep outfits staying mostly clean throughout our daily life, let alone try and figure out what’s trending or in style for the current season.
We’re here to help! And even better? We’ve got lots of help today from other moms and frumpy fighters on how to do this with leggings!
Recently, we started some contests to see how you would style a particular piece of clothing. You submit a picture to us of your non-frumpy, mom outfit and in turn we choose a first place winner and then show off your cute self in a helpful blog post. 😉 You can read more about our contests and the current prizes being offered!
If you are a subscriber of our email list or have explored the blog, you may have come across a link or invite to our Facebook group Frumpy Fighters. This is where members can share their daily outfit inspiration, their questions and tips on clothing pieces, as well as outfits they’ve created from our outfit guides! It’s a wonderful little community and if you aren’t already a member there, we’d love to have you join us!
These photos below come from members of our group who fearlessly accepted our challenge to style leggings in cute, mom friendly fashions. Before we get started, though, here are a few tips for styling outfits well.
Wear clothes that fit. This may seem like an obvious one, but how many of us have favorite pieces from college or pre-baby that we just love, continue wearing, but don’t really fit us anymore? Sell or donate those items and invest some basics that fit you!
Proportions are important. Especially when wearing layers (like leggings!) it’s important to keep proportions of your clothing pieces in mind. You don’t want a flowy top with a long loose skirt and chunky boots. It’ll swallow you up! But a blouse with a fitted jacket, knee-length skirt, and skinny boots will give you some shape and still be comfy and chic!
Utilize good lighting. This is true for taking pictures of your outfits as well as just trying new clothing combos and pieces! Open your blinds and curtains and use all the natural lighting you can get! It’ll give you a much better sense of whether you like a clothing piece or want to share a picture of you and your frumpy fighting success!
Ok, now on to the fun stuff! Here are the pics submitted by moms just like you and me who have some great leggings outfits for us.
Leggings Style: Dresses
This is a fantastic way to add some dimension to dress outfits as well as a great transition from summer to fall!
Leggings Style: Tunics
This is probably my personal favorite way to wear leggings! Tunics! Tunics are super versatile, especially with leggings and skinny pants. These ladies are rocking it! You can hardly find a more comfortable mom outfit than leggings and a tunic top.
Note: You’ll see outfits in bare feet, socks and slippers! That’s because we’re moms and a chunk of our time is at home– exactly where it’s sometimes tough to fight the frump. 🙂
Leggings Style: As Pants
This can be a tricky one, as no lady wants to feel exposed while wearing leggings, but I think these gals showed us just how to conquer their leggings as pants.
Notice how some of these looks are styled for being at home and some for being out and about? Isn’t that what mom life is all about?!
Some days we are fighting the battle to be cute, yet relaxed at home as we chase kiddos around, cleaning up after them, and other days we are in and out of the car, running errands, dropping kids off at school or sports, fighting the frump while feeling harried.
Just like these lovely ladies, YOU CAN DO IT! Small investments, like slippers you love or a jacket that adds style and still has function, can have a big impact on how you feel conquering day to day life.
On you go, mamas, pull on those leggings, grab some accessories and tell us how you are styling these comfy bottoms over at Frumpy Fighters!
