Joggers are a very trendy right now. I’m sure you’ve been seeing them in stores for a few seasons, but you probably only think of them as sweatpants. Well, today some awesome members of our Frumpy Fighters Facebook group are showing us 20+ ways to look cute in jogger outfits.
I’m also sharing easy tips on how to find joggers that look great on you.
First off, what exactly are joggers?
Joggers are pants that taper at the calf and/or ankle.
They are often in sweat pant material, but not always– as we’ll cover below.
This topic has been long overdue! Ever since I released the latest Full Year Wardrobe Outfit Guide, the topic of joggers has come up frequently on Frump Fighters.
As I like to say about our lively Facebook Group… if you want to start a conversation in the group just mention joggers.
Here’s the deal.
- Joggers are popular right now. That means you can look trendy if you wear them.
- Joggers are comfortable. It’s the new sweatpants, without just being plain sweatpants (as you’ll see in the outfits below).
- Moms need comfortable. While I think jeans and other kinds of pants can be comfortable too, there are just those days in the week when you wanna pull on your husbands sweatpants and big hoodie.
It’s at least on those kind of days that the joggers trend can be extremely handy. Because you can be ultra comfortable while being ultra trendy.
Joggers are comfortable and you will look on-trend wearing them.
A potential win-win if you ask me!
But the problem with joggers?
It’s easy to look frumpy in them if you don’t get the right pair.
The two factors making joggers frump-risky are:
Casual material. Cotton is a common material for joggers and they don’t provide structure which many body types need.
Tricky shape. Joggers are often looser on top and taper at the bottom. That means the wrong pair can make you wider at the hips. And do we need wider hips mamas?
Here are my tips for avoiding these problems with joggers so that you can find a pair that you feel CUTE in.
How To Find Joggers That Flatter
#1 Look for joggers with structure.
Many of the cheapest joggers you’ll find out there are a stretchy cotton material–like the French terry cloth type or with fleece-lining. Exactly what you would expect sweat pants to be made of.
If you are a very slim or have a straight body shape you might be able to look great in unstructured, stretchy cotton.
Here are a couple of outfit pics I took when I just purchased my cotton pair from Old Navy.
I loved them, however, I’ve found that while I felt good in them the first few weeks, they lost their shape after a couple of washes and I got the “big butt” or baggy look.
To avoid this, you can look for non-stretchy material such as twill or chino material.
#2 Look for quality joggers in polyester or nylon material
Polyester and nylon material are both heavier (if good quality and in thick knit) and they have a nice shine to it. It also doesn’t pill after washing (again, as long as it’s good quality).
For these reasons polyester or nylon joggers look less casual and are easier to dress up. They are also slimming.

#3 Look for slim-fit joggers
Ideally you want your joggers to be slim fit from top to bottom. While they will taper the most right at the ankle, you want to avoid the balloon look on the top.
Getting joggers in the right material (twill, polyester or nylon) will help provide the slim fit.
But there are even joggers made in the French Terry cotton type that are cut to fit slim, regardless of how often you wash them. You’ll want these cotton joggers to have minimal spandex/elastane in them so that they keep their shape even after washes.

Below I’m sharing examples of these looks by ladies in our group Frump Fighters.
Joggers Style: Button Up
Button-Ups are an easy layering piece that don’t add a lot of bulk. Try them closed over a tank or open over a printed top! Open is also a great way to style your button-ups during pregnancy. They are very versatile!
Joggers Style: Jean Jacket
Jean jackets are a classic piece everyone should have in their wardrobe. They add more warmth than a button up but should also have a fitted look which is always flattering!

Joggers Style: Stripes
Stripes are almost a neutral all of their own. They pattern match well and create a basic, classy look without much effort!
Joggers Style: Cardigans
Cardigans come in a variety of lengths, colors, and styles which means everyone can find one (or a few!) that fit their personal style best. They are the perfect, comfy layering piece that can easily step up your outfit!
Joggers Style: Scarves
Scarves also come in so many different options you can create outfits for any season and style with them. Especially if you don’t want to add too many layers a scarf is an inexpensive, simple option!
Joggers Style: Vest
Vests are probably one of the most worn completer pieces in my wardrobe, besides cardigans. I love how quick and easy they create warmth without the bulkiness of a jacket.
Joggers Style: Dressy
I know, I know, this is where you are all hesitantly looking at me with raised eyebrows. But with the right joggers (material is everything!) you can totally create a great going-out or date night outfit. Try it and you might be surprised how chic and trendy you are!
