Have you been wondering what fashion trends are “in” this fall & winter 2023/2024? Wonder no longer!
Some of the fall/winter women’s fashion trends you’ll find in stores in 2023 & 2024 include colors like pink, earth tones, and red. Specific fabrics like denim, ditsy florals, rib knit, and plaid are also everywhere. Some specific clothing styles trending right now are button-down shirts, oversized pieces, high necklines, cargo pants, puff sleeves, and many others. Read the blog post for specific examples and links to affordable options online!
Here on the Frump Fighters blog we make it our goal to help you wade through the fashion world and easily find the bright, exciting new things that can help you step up your wardrobe.
While we do try to focus on classic styles that can carry you through many years without looking dated, an easy way to avoid “frumpy” is by incorporating seasonal trends into your closet.
It helps freshen and update your look–eliminating the risk of “falling behind” or looking “dated.” Nobody wants that!
Figuring out what casual and chic trends are in style each season (that are also kid-friendly) can be time consuming.
Instead, using our list of mom-friendly trends for each season you can feel 100% informed and find exactly what you need (or decide to avoid) in a grab-and-go trip at Target.
We’re here to make it easy for you to feel confident about what you wear, what you buy, and what you don’t buy.
As you learn what’s “in style” your confidence while shopping and dressing will skyrocket.
These current trends made the cut, and there are others that we chose NOT to include either because they were 1) expensive, 2) not modest/classy, 3) not conducive to everyday life!

Fall & Winter 2023/2024 Fashion Trends:
COLORS, PATTERNS & TEXTURES
Fashion Trend #1: All Shades of Pinks
This is a trend we saw last year, but it’s still going strong thanks to the release of a certain doll-centric movie.
If the brighter hues aren’t something you’ve worn in years, try a more subtle hue.
Or, go for a bright color pop in a smaller dose like a pair of statement earring.

Fashion Trend #2: Denim
I know what you’re thinking, denim for fall and winter is an obvious fashion pick.
But, denim has made its way to things like boots and bags and dresses too!
If you’re really feeling this trend, try a denim on denim combo a la the Y2K aesthetic.

- Women’s Short Sleeve Utility Dress – Knox Rose
- Oversized Jean Boyfriend Shirt for Women
- Handbag
- Faux Suede Western Ankle Boots for Women
- Tie-Belt Jean Utility Jacket for Women
- High-Waisted Jean Midi Skirt for Women
Fashion Trend #3: Ditsy Florals
I don’t think floral has ever left our trends updates! It’s always back in one form or another.
In the past few seasons florals have tended to be on a smaller scale (ditsy florals!). You can find them in almost any type of piece!

- Puff-Sleeve Tie-Front Embroidered Swing Top for Women
- EveryWear Printed Slub-Knit T-Shirt for Women

Fashion Trend #4: Earth Tones
Traditional earth tones that reflect the hues of the season are always a great pick for the fall.
Deep and rich or soft and light, there’s a range of color that can work for just about anyone.
You’ll see a wide variety of earthy colors in a lot of our other “specific style” trends (see trends #8-#19 below).

Fashion Trend #5: Rib Knit
The classic style of a ribbed knit is, well, a classic. Not only does the ribbed design add interest to a piece, but it also give the fabric elasticity for easy movement — a must for moms!
Lots of basic tops, tees and dresses can be found in this fabric. They make a great base piece while the ribs add some texture!

- Fitted Elbow-Sleeve Rib-Knit T-Shirt for Women
- V-Neck Sweater Vest for Women

Fashion Trend #8: Button-Down Shirts
A basic button-down is always in style – it’s a classic piece!

- Oversized Boyfriend Tunic Sweatshirt for Women
- AE Dreamy Drape Oversized Corduroy Shirt
- ANRABESS Women’s Turtleneck Pullover Sweater

Fashion Trend #11: Athleisure
Another perfect trend for busy, on-the-go moms is athleisure.
Whether you are sporty by nature or just love comfort and ease, you will adore all the athleisure options you’ll see in stores right now.
This trend has been strong the last few years and is continuing!
There are so many awesome styles and fits of pullovers, sweatshirts, and leggings you can surely find something that fits your style.
A very popular version of this trend is matching sets. Like tops and bottoms that are the same fabric and when worn together they almost look like a romper or jumpsuit.

Fashion Trend #13: High Waisted Bottoms

Fashion Trend #15: Short Cardigans & Vests
This started trending last year and it’s still going strong!
While I personally am not sure about the vests, they do make an easy layering piece that work great over the trendy button-down shirts.
Thankfully, high-rise bottoms are still going strong and they are perfect with these cropped cardigans and vests!

- V-Neck Sweater Vest for Women
- Rib-knit Crop Cardigan

Fashion Trend #16: Puff Sleeves
Don’t let me lose you here, because here’s a truth you’re going to have to face: Puff sleeves are IN. SO IN. You won’t be getting away from them.
You can, of course, skip adding them to your wardrobe if you don’t like them.
If you do like them, they are a pretty, feminine touch to tops and dresses!
Keep in mind: These tops/dresses are a bit less versatile for use in fall and winter because cardigans often look lumpy over puffed sleeves. However, a thicker cardigan or a jacket like a denim jacket or moto jacket are still great options for layering in the colder months so you can style these pieces year-round.

- Womens Short Sleeve Lightweight Crochet Blouse

- PRETTYGARDEN Women’s Long Sleeve Turtleneck And Midi Skirt Set
- Cropped Pullover Hoodie for Women | Extra High-Waisted Jogger Sweatpants for Women
Fashion Trend #18: Shackets & Layers
Similar to a basic button-down shirt, the shacket is thicker and usually more oversized.
This is a great layering piece going into fall and would also be a great completer piece for those warmer climates where you really don’t need a true jacket during the cooler months of the year!
We are also seeing a trend towards ponchos and 1/4 zip sweatshirts as unique ways to layer for the cooler months ahead.
Corina just can’t jump on board with the collared quarter-zip sweater though (see #4 below)… all she sees is her brother dressed for church in the 90’s! 😛 Anyone else??

- AE Dreamy Drape Oversized Corduroy Shirt
- Womens Casual Button Down Long Sleeve Shacket
- Women’s Cropped Quarter Zip Sweatshirt – Universal Thread

Fashion Trend #19: Pants Styles & Silhouettes
We’ve touched on some of the biggest trends for pants already (high rise, wide leg) but there are some other pant silhouettes that are worth mentioning too!
A true flared jean or a straight jean are popular in all denim colors and washes.
We are still seeing a lot light washes, even going into fall, and this is an easy way to “lighten” up your outfits before the cold dreary season is here!

Read the next section for some reminders on how to incorporate trends into your wardrobe without overdoing it…and regretting your purchases in a few years.
How to Use Fashion Trends In Your Wardrobe
Quick reminders before we dive in…
Tip #1: Be picky with your trends
Only try out the ones you really love. Don’t just buy something because all the other moms are wearing it.
Does it fit your style? Does it make your heart go THOMP THOMP?😍
Also, can pick trends that can be added to your wardrobe on a budget.
For example, recently embroidered jeans were the hot new trend. This would have been a pricier trend to add because jeans aren’t cheap! Also, the trend died off pretty quickly leaving lots of people with a pair of jeans that don’t feel very relevant anymore.
Instead, adding an embroidered scarf or skipping the trend altogether may be a better use of your money.
Don’t forget to grab this freebie that covers several ways you can incorporate trends for free or for cheap.
Tip #2: Keep in mind that trends aren’t immune to frumpy monster attacks
Just because something is super popular doesn’t automatically make it chic and stylish.
Make sure you follow the basic rules for not looking frumpy when you try a new trend. Those rules apply to any new style that comes around!
Tip #3: Build up your foundation of essentials before adding trends
If you feel like you don’t have any basic outfits to start with, buying trends will only frustrate you. Make sure you have those basics first that will form the foundation of every good outfit.
Examples are:
- good fitting white tee
- jeans
- denim shorts
- simple, neutral day dress
When you have a good foundation, adding a trend or two to your style becomes fun and adds value to your wardrobe!
Download our free year-round wardrobe plan below for a complete list of basics!
Tip #4: Treat trends like sprinkles on a cupcake, not like the batter
As Corina teaches in the Frumpy to Fabulous course about creating your customized wardrobe framework, your wardrobe should be mostly (70-80%) classic essentials.

Although some of your essentials may have a trendy feel to them, they are still basics that will look good for years.
Trends can be added to your wardrobe like sprinkles to a frosted cupcake to add that extra fun look!
This prevents your wardrobe from looking dated every few years but also keeps it fresh and on-trend.
You can be confident that when you incorporate some of these looks into your fall/winter wardrobe, you will be looking relevant, stylish, and super cute!
