We’re at part 5 of the series already! (See the rest of the series here.) Time to talk about SHOES: how to vary your selection, find the most comfortable options to accommodate mom life, and pair them with everyday outfits.
How important is your choice of shoes?
Your shoes can make or break an outfit.
I’d break the shoe categories down in the following way for moms:
-
Errands
-
Casual
-
Formal
-
Athletic
If your only “errand” shoes are an old pair of running shoes, it won’t matter how much care you put into assembling a chic outfit for errands… those sneakers will bring your whole look down. This applies to every category. Although it’s obvious in “formal” category (who would show up to a work Christmas party in a nice dress and sneakers??), so many times we opt for the same pair of old sneakers or slip-ons to pair with anything we wear.
Owning the right shoes is better than owning a lot of shoes.
Thankfully, one pair of shoes (if the right color and style) can stretch to complete most of your outfits. You don’t need to own multiple pairs of shoes in each category. You just need to own a pair or two for each category that are basic, in style, and versatile. The outfits will be endless. I’ll provide you with an outfit formula for each at the end of the post, but these outfits are just the beginning.
A versatile selection of shoes
The goal of a smart selection of shoes is to minimize the amount you need to buy. Now, if you happen to be one of those ladies who never has enough shoes and thinks they are THE only important thing in a woman’s wardrobe, then the idea of minimizing your shoe acquisitions probably sounds ludicrous. But if that’s you, chances are you have a pretty good handle on this whole topic and can just skip down to the shopping section. 😉
I’m personally not crazy about shoes in particular but do understand the huge part they can play in our overall look. So here is my minimum selection of shoes for a mom’s wardrobe. I picked these out with stay-at-home mom life in mind, so if you also work outside the home you might need to add another pair of pumps or wedges.

If you already own a good pair of shoes in each of these categories, then consider these additional options to add variety and personality to your shoe selection!

Best picks for moms: A blend of classic and on-trend shoes
Here are some affordable shoe options! In my curation, I looked for shoes under $50 and tried to find as many under $25 as possible… because $25 is pretty much the max I’ve paid for anything other than boots. But I’m kind of cheap that way 🙂
